Our Story of Hat Man

My name is Kelly. I am 18, living in Alabama, and have seen Hat Man.

Hat man is a common super-natural phenomenon.

I saw Hat Man when I was 12 or 13, around there. I wasn’t too young, but I know I was in middle school. I only saw him once.
I was laying in bed, half-asleep. You know when you’re falling asleep, and you can hear your surroundings but can’t open your eyes or move because you’re just pretty much on the verge of deep sleep? That’s where I was at. I had my TV on. I opened my eyes for a second, and saw someone standing at the end of my bed. Since I was half-asleep, I didn’t really think anything of it. But then I realized someone was there, and opened my eyes. He was gone.
I remember just what he looked like. It will stick out in my brain probably forever. Top hat, long coat looking thing, but all black. No facial features or anything. Just a black fog.

So naturally, I brushed it off as my eyes playing tricks on me. I didn’t believe in ghosts, and really had no evidence to believe in them. I wasn’t against the belief, I just didn’t believe. We were raised to believe those types of things didn’t exist. I knew my sister, Kristen, had seen a “ghost” before, but everyone ignored it & told her it was a dream.
One day, I decided to tell her. Not as a “I saw a ghost” kind of story. It was more like a “I totally got the crap scared out of me one night when my eyes were playing tricks on me!”. Of course, I tell her what I saw. Dark figure with a top hat and a coat, no facial features.
She gets COMPLETELY freaked out. She saw the exact same thing, years earlier than me.
For a while, I still thought it was just my eyes playing tricks on me, and it was just coincidence that she saw the same king of figure. Then we talked about it some more, and realized that it was too odd that we had the same experience. We are sisters, and as sisters (including Katie) we all are incredibly close & obviously have some of the same ideas on things. But this was different.

First, we ruled it down to being a ghost. We even played on ouiji boards numerous times, at parties and alone. We were convinced it was a ghost haunting our house. We called him “Pat”. We thought it was an indian, since our family is Cherokee indian. We thought it was someone who walked my great grandmother to school everyday, “protecting” us like he did her.
Well, this lasted for about 2 and a half years, until Kristen began researching shadow people and ghosts. This is how we found out about the phenomenon that is “Hat Man”.

Obviously, at first, we were a little spooked out. Hundreds, maybe even THOUSANDS of people had this SAME experience. They saw the EXACT same thing we did, and we finally knew we weren’t totally crazy. We told everyone we knew. Even a few people have come forward to us telling us that they saw him too.

I’ve created this tumblr to post stories, pictures, videos, and anything else I can about Hat Man. If you have any stories, don’t hesitate to submit them!
